Collector Christina Z. Chongthu has directed the police machinery to initiate suitable steps to prevent atrocities on Dalits and get tough with those who indulged in excommunication of them in villages.
Conducting a review on the cases relating to SC and ST atrocities with the police, revenue and social welfare officers here on Friday, she said that pending cases should be resolved at the earliest.
On a specific case at Machharla village of Armoor mandal that the Dalits were not allowed into a temple, she suggested the conduct of awareness camps at the village to remove differences among different castes and religions.
71 cases pending
Disclosing that as many as 71 SC, ST atrocity cases were pending in the district in the last three years, she said that if the cases were kept pending for a long time it would cause loss to the aggrieved party.
Additional Joint Collector C. Sreeram Reddy, Additional SP Ms. P.V. Padmaja, Social Welare officers, Revenue Divisional Officers and Deputy SPs and other officials were present.
