In the wake of panchayat elections, Superintendent of Police Karthikeya has said that the police would keep strict vigil on transport of illicit liquor and cash. In tune with his orders, police along with Excise sleuths raided Gumma, Battivalasa and Peddavalasa villages in Komarada mandal on Wednesday and destroyed 3700litres of jiggery wash and 1400 litres of distilled liquor and arrested three persons. That apart, during vehicle checking at G.L. Puram, Elwinpet police seized 11 whisky and 21 beer bottles and arrested one Krishna Chandra Mohanty, he said. He said that the police and Excise officials would intensify raids on illicit liquor-making dens. The SP said that seven check-posts to monitor flow of liquor and money into the district in addition to two check-posts in mandals bordering with Odisha were setup. At the check-posts, 986 liquor bottles besides cash Rs. 10.70lakhs were seized so far and registered 19 cases under the E & P Act.

With regard to sensitive and hypersensitive villages, some 239 have been identified so far, Mr. Karthikeya said that 409 cases under Section 107CrPC were registered against 10,237people, and six cases under Section110CrPC against 25 people.
