Five occupants abandon four-wheeler and give the slip

ANANTAPUR: A Karnataka-registered four-wheeler was seized by the district police near Somuladoddi village on the outskirts of Anantapur on Wednesday after a wild chase from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A few letterheads belonging to Bangalore Development Association president R. Sivaram Gowda, a few clothes and a knife were seized from the vehicle. According to police, the Rapthadu police tried to stop the vehicle as part of routine vehicle checking around 10 a.m. on the NH-7 but the vehicle sped away.

When head constable Saleem and homeguard Adinarayana tried to stop the vehicle at Garladinne it did not stop there either, prompting alerting of all police stations in the district. On noticing a police vehicle at a distance the vehicle proceeded towards Anantapur.

The vehicle was left abandoned near Somuladoddi about 1 p.m.

Local people told the police that three men and two women alighted from the vehicle with a bag and escaped. The police were suspecting that there could be weapons and explosives in the bag and the persons travelling could be criminals.
