Srikakulam police department intensified inspections throughout the district to prevent illegal distribution of money in panchayat elections. Around Rs.40 lakh have already been seized in the last one week. Srikakulam District Superintendent of Police Naveen Gulati told The Hindu that the department had strengthened the vigilance at all the 15 check posts in the district.
“We are keen to stop illegal distribution of money and liquor. The police officials in all the mandals have been advised to crack down on belt shops,” Mr.Gulati said.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party delegation urged him to ensure free and fair elections. TDP Srikakulam Parliamentary wing incharge Kinjarapu Rammohan, former Ministers Gunda Appala Suryanarayana, Kimidi Kalavenkata Rao submitted him a memorandum alleging that the ruling Congress Party was causing law and order problem in many places. Mr.Gulati assured them that the department would focus on hyper-sensitive villages to prevent law and order problem.
