ELURU: The Vijayawada police drew flak from the city branch of the Bullion Merchants Association for their reported feverish attempts to recover huge quantities of stolen gold allegedly belonging to relatives of two Ministers from the local bullion merchants.

The merchants staged a demonstration in the city and the kin of those reportedly whisked away by the police sent a telegram to the Chief Justice of A. P. High Court, seeking their release.

According to information, a police team from Vijayawada reportedly whisked away three bullion merchants on October 23 on the charge of purchasing stolen gold.

The raid was a follow-up to the confession allegedly made by an accused Adapa Venkanna, who was reportedly involved in a series of offences in Krishna, West Godavari, Warangal and parts of Telangana, that he had sold over 100 tolas of gold .
