Rich tributes were paid to police personnel who had laid down their lives while discharging their duties at the police parade grounds here on Monday.
Undeterred by heavy downpour, Prakasam district Collector G.S.R.K.R.Vijaykumar and Superintendent of Police P.Pramod Kumar were among those who placed a wreath at the commemorative pylon to remember 10 CRPF jawans died on the Sino-Indian border on this day in 1959.
The Collector recalled the supreme sacrifice made by the security personnel while maintaining security and exhorted the personnel to adopt high standards in maintenance of law and order. Armed Reserve ASP J.Krishnaiah read out the names of the 579 security personnel in the country, including one from Andhra Pradesh, who had laid down their lives while discharging their duties in the last one year.
Thirtytwo outstanding students who shone in essay and other competitions held between October 15 and 20, were given away prizes by the Collector and the SP. The collector flagged off an impressive rally on the occasion.
