‘Instead of spending money on water supply, the government is constructing roads for Rs. 2 crore'
ADILABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLC Yelamanchili Babu Rajendra Prasad on Wednesday demanded Rs. 15 lakh ex gratia for each of the tribal people who died due to the consumption of polluted drinking water at Kurreguda in Kasipet mandal recently.
The Health Minister and Adilabad district in-charge, Mr. Danam Nagender should accept the responsibility for the deaths, he said.
Mr. Prasad, who is the president of Andhra Pradesh Sarpanchula Sangham and deputy floor leader of TDP in the Legislative Council, criticised the government for failing to provide safe drinking water to the tribal village.
“Instead of spending money on water supply, the government was more keen on executing the construction of roads for Rs. 2 crore in Kasipet mandal,” he said.
MLC and Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna attended a dharna by the Sangham in front of the district Collectorate earlier in the day and demanded curbing the misuse of funds under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the State.
The other demands included releasing of the gram panchayat funds, supply of free-of-cost electricity for street lights and implementation of the agreement on 32 other demands put to the government .
