NELLORE: ‘Peetadipathi’ of Kadapa Pedda Dargah Syed Shah Arifulla Hussaini performed sandal paste ritual at Bara Saheed Dargah on Tuesday night on the occasion of ‘Rottela Panduga’ in Nellore city.

Mr. Arifulla Hussaini along with the religious heads of the Muslim community applied sandal paste to the tombs of 12 war martyrs and performed prayers at the dargah in the wee hours of Wednesday . Later, they distributed the sandal to the devotees who attended ‘gandhotsavam’.

The ‘gandham’ collected from the tombs is believed to cleanse the pilgrims from all sins and give them a healthy and wealthy life, according to the elders of the community. More than two lakh pilgrims thronged the dargah for the customary ritual which is performed on the second day of the fete every year.

Minority Welfare Minister Syed Ahmadulla, Municipal Administration Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, Mayor N.Bhanusri, MLAs Mekapati Chandrashekar Reddy, Mungamuri Sridharkrishna Reddy, Anam Vivekananda Reddy, Collector K. Ramgopal, Superintendent of Police B.Malla Reddy and others offered prayers.
