VIJAYAWADA: Goddess Kanakadurga was adorned as ‘Lalitha Tripura Sundari Devi’ on the fifth day of Dasara celebrations on Indrakeeladri here on Saturday, with pilgrims from different parts of the State visiting the temple in good number.

There was a quick movement in the queues, as the pilgrim rush was not much when compared to what it was on Friday. The temple authorities and the revenue officials focussed mainly on making arrangements for Monday’s ‘Moola Nakshatram’ celebrations and district Collector Shailaja Ramaiyer would review the arrangements on Sunday. Arrangements for ‘Teppotsavam,’ the colourful event that would take place in the Krishna on the last day of celebrations on October 9, would also be reviewed at the meeting.

However, CPI city secretary K. Subba Raju accused the officials of “sidelining” the elected representatives totally while making arrangements for the festival. He said in a statement that none of the elected representatives had received any invitation from Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam even on the fifth day of the festival. “The officials completely ignored all elected representatives. They did not even provide basic facilities to pilgrims who are coming from distant places to visit the temple,” he said.

Finding fault with the members of the festival committee for overreacting to minor issues, Mr. Subba Raju advised them to focus on improving pilgrim amenities.
