A huge pigeon house (kabutar khana) for about 5,000 to 6,000 pigeons has been established in a 3,000 sq.ft. site at Gaganpahad by the Satyam Shivam Sundaram Gaunivas, a press release said on Monday.

Costs Rs.25 lakh

Conceptualised and designed by 70-year-old Dharam Raj Ranka, who is the founder of the organisation, the pigeon house costing Rs.25 lakh has been funded by philanthropists and devotees, the press release said. It will be opened this month.

The organisation already maintains a ‘Gaushala’ (cow shelter) housing 4,300 cows, calves and bullocks, it said.

The aim of constructing the pigeon house is to offer a safe and serene shelter to the birds and also give a chance for the devotees who frequent the Gaushala to feed them, Mr. Ranka said.
