Demanding that the government distribute cooking gas cylinders at subsidised prices to all the welfare hostels and schools where the mid-day meal scheme was being implemented, activists of the Progressive Democratic Students Union staged a dharna in front of the district Collectorate here on Thursday. President and general secretary of the PDSU’s district union U. Gani Raju and M. Ramakrishna respectively, demanded that the waiver of the subsidy on cooking gas cylinders was nothing but an indication that the government speed up the implementation of economic reforms. They said that the students were suffering a lot due to the government’s decision on subsidies, which was affecting badly their academics. They demanded that the government roll back its decision on the waiver of subsidy on cooking gas cylinders and make arrangements for the supply of required number of cylinders to the schools and hostels.
