HYDERABAD: After issuing several orders on closure, stop production and directions to industries erring on pollution norms during last fortnight, the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has now decided to mount pressure with special teams for monitoring. The teams will begin work in two days.
It has been decided to have two special teams under the supervision of officers of Senior Environmental Engineer rank to keep a watch on the industries in different industrial areas around the city. These teams will also look into the allegations of industries surreptitiously and illegally discharging effluents into different lakes.
A statement from the PCB issued on Tuesday hinted at tough stand against polluting industries in Kazipally, Gaddapotharam, Bolaram and Jeedimetla industrial estates. Towards this end, it decided to constitute two special teams for inspection of all units that did not install pollution control measures and allegedly were discharging untreated effluents into `nalas' leading to Asanikunta, Kazipally tank and Hussainsagar lake.
"If the industries are found to be discharging untreated effluents into these tanks/lakes, we plan to take stern action against them and will even look at the option of closure," an official said.
