The AP Pollution Control Board has identified three industries for the air pollution that has been irritating the people of the city for the past few days. Member secretary of the board M. Dana Kishore held a review meeting with the representatives of the three polluting industries – HPCL, Coromandel International Ltd. and Hindustan Zinc Ltd. – and issued stern warning to them. He also directed the PCB officials to issue show cause notices to these industries.
The drop in temperatures during the past three days has resulted in the pollutants remaining in the atmosphere. Samples were drawn from the industrial areas and residential areas on November 5 and sent to the Andhra University for testing. Action would be initiated on the erring industries on receipt of the report, according to a statement issued by PCB here on Monday.
Mr. Kishore has also warned the polluting industries that orders would be issued, if necessary, directing them to cut down their production.
He said full-fledged measures would be taken after a 7-day study with the help of 40 analysts and scientists from other PCB Offices in the State.
