VIJAYAWADA: The four-day Passport Mela, organised by the Regional Passport Office (Secunderabad) and Lanco Institute for General and Humanitarian Trust, came to a close on Tuesday as applicants arrived in large numbers to make use of the opportunity on the last day.

On all four days put together, nearly 10,000 aspirants bought application forms reflecting the growing number of people looking for foreign travel and possible migration. However, the number of applicants who would end up getting passports might be around 5,000 going by the eligibility criterion. Going by huge response, Regional Passport Officer B. Bala Bhasker was expected to announce that another mela would be held soon. Passport Mela camp officer P. Ashok said there was heavy rush on the last day and officials were making all efforts to accommodate all eligible applicants.
