The main political parties have focused their attention on the final phase of panchayat polls slated to be held in Kothagudem, Palvancha and Bhadrachalam divisions on July 31 to establish their sway over the coal belt and agency areas with an eye on the next general elections.

A total of 358 panchayats including the major gram panchayat of Bhadrachalam will go to the polls in the final phase. Although the panchayat elections are being held on a non-party basis, the main political parties including the ruling Congress party and main opposition TDP have accorded top priority to the third phase of panchayat polls to strengthen their base at the grassroots level.

The TDP district leadership is upbeat about the victory of candidates supported by it in as many as 113 gram panchayats of the total 354 panchayats which went to the polls in the second phase on Saturday.
