All political parties have decided to organise rasta rokos and demonstrations across the district demanding works on the Kanthanpalli project across River Godavari at Eturunagaram here.
At a round table meeting organised by the CPI (M) on Sunday, representatives of TDP, CPI, YSRC, Lok Satta, TRLD, Forward Block and others expressed concern over the inordinate delay in executing the project that is aimed at providing irrigation and drinking water to the district.
CPI (M) district secretary G. Nagaiah said irrigation and drinking water requirements of the people of Telangana were being neglected by the ruling Congress. Though Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah, a resident of the district held the Irrigation Ministry, he did not evince interest in augmenting the projects in the district.
“If the neglect continues, in the next ten years, the district will turn into a desert,” Nagaiah said.
The multi-purpose project Kanthanapalli provided much needed relief to the farmers in Warangal and neighbouring districts. The project will give a fillip to development as it helps generate power and contributes to industrial development. The CPI (M) leader urged all the parties to join hands and take up a series of agitations to pressurise the State government to execute the project at the earliest. District heads of the parties – A. Baswa Reddy (TDP), T. Srinivasa Rao (CPI), YSRC convenor T. Ramesh Babu, LSP district president M. Gattaiah, TRLD T. Pradeep Goud, E. Venu of Forward Block and others spoke.
