Death anniversary falls on January 24Tight security at Reddypalli sub-jail Gunmen provided for 60 key leaders

Anantapur: The district police have stepped up vigil in the wake of rumours doing rounds that there are possibilities of revenge killings, as the first death anniversary of the slain Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, Paritala Ravindra, is being observed on January 24.

Intelligence sleuths have been instructed to intensify their vigil on the activities of both sides.

However, ruling out any such possibility, Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain said that they were not taking any chances. Intelligence inputs were being studied carefully to prevent any attempt to disturb peace, he said.

Security at the Reddypalli sub-jail, near here, where the 13 accused persons in the Paritala Ravindra murder case, including Suri and Moddu Sreenu are lodged, is to be stepped up.

A close watch is also being kept on the activities of key leaders. Those under threat had already been provided with gunmen. In all, 60 leaders of the ruling party and other parties have been provided with gunmen, the SP said.

Kistappa's plea

Earlier, TDP leader and former Minister N. Kistappa represented to Mr. Jain saying that there was a threat to his life. But the SP allayed his fears.

Meanwhile, arrangements for the death anniversary are being made at Venkatapuram in Ramagiri mandal.
