VIJAYAWADA: The Governorpet police seized a panchaloha idol belonging to 18 {+t} {+h} century from two persons, who were attempting to sell it in the city on Monday.

Governorpet SI P. Bhaskar Rao said that G. Rajender, a native of Manchiryal and P. Srinivas, a native of Secunderabad, were in possession of the Buddhist idol worth of about Rs. 50 lakhs. They were looking for a prospective customer with the help of Ashok, who is resident of Vijayawada. Upon receiving credible information, the police raided their place and seized the idol and arrested the duo. However, Ashok is at large. The officials of the Archaeology Department confirmed that the idol was from Tibet and belonged to 18 {+t} {+h} century, he said.
