Unidentified thieves stole a panchaloha idol of Lord Sri Krishna and gold and silver jewellery in the Sri Krishna and Durga Devi temples in Ananthagiri Sri Krishna temple on the Telugu Ganga project road in Badvel town in the early hours of Thursday.
They broke open the lock of the sanctum sanctorum in Sri Krishna temple and decamped with the 3.50 kg panchaloha idol of the presiding deity besides gold ‘naamalu' weighing 10 grams and a silver flute, police said.
They also burgled Durga Devi temple on the premises and stole gold ‘naamalu', silver waistband, ‘eyes' and anklets.
The gang of robbers also burgled a nearby Saibaba temple and broke open two almirahs on the premises, but no valuables were stolen, the police added.
The value of the stolen property was estimated to be around Rs. 2 lakh. Badvel police registered a case and are investigating.
