Relay fast continues at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near GVMC office

VISAKHAPATNAM: Padayatras and relay fasts marked the continuing agitation for integrated Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Former minister and senior TDP leader Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy led a padayatra from NTR statue at Pendurthy to Mahatma Gandhi statue at GVMC with his supporters covering Vepagunta, Gopalaptnam, NAD Kotta Road, Kancharapalem, Convent Junction and Allipuram. After visiting the relay fast camp at GVMC, he went to Andhra University where students are on fast.

He walked a total 30 km in the walk.

TDP leader K. Yerran Naidu also visited the camp at GVMC and said that resignations of MLAs of the major parties and the agitation was a proof of people’s opposition to the UPA Government’s decision. The agitation should continue till a favourable decision came. He released a CD ‘Jai Samaikyandhra’ containing four songs written by B.S. Chandrasekhar.

Relay fast at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation continued in support of integrated Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

Telugu Desam floor leader in GVMC Nalluri Bhaskara Rao sat on the fast along with corporator Ommi Sanyasi Rao and hundreds of his supporters at the TDP camp. The TDP that played its founder NTR’s film songs on Tuesday had a couple of performers dancing to them at the camp on Wednesday. Two persons in full make-up danced to the songs “Telugujati manadi..,” “Janani Janmabhoomischa…” and “Emayya Ramayya..” drawing a big crowd. Representatives of educational institutions and Andhra University research scholars and students who visited the camp to express support. Others donned the roles of patriotic leaders. Those who addressed the camp criticised the Congress decision and TRS president K.Chandrasekhar Rao.

At the Mahatma Gandhi statue, a youth, Kedarnath, hailing from Srikakulam and working in a private company here stood on foot with a pamphlet held between his teeth for two hours expressing support to the cause of integrated Andhra Pradesh.

At the Congress camp, a good number of members of Visakha Congress Muslim Minorities sat in the relay fast. Congress leader Zaheer Ahmed who rallied them said about 150 to 200 persons observed fast in support of integrated Andhra Pradesh. Children donned the roles of Mahatma Gandhi, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Subhashchandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao and MLAs Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao and Malla Vijaya Prasad addressed the protestors.
