The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the Central Government announce an appropriate package to rescue farmers who suffered heavy losses by a series of natural calamities that affected the State.
The party wanted the Centre to take steps to rehabilitate weavers, toddy tappers and artisans who were adversely affected by untimely rains and flood, relax norms for procuring discoloured food grains, vacate godowns of Food Corporation of India to ensure storage of the procured food grains and permit export of BPT variety of paddy.
A delegation of party legislators led by MLC Dadi Veerabhadra Rao called on the members of the Natural Calamities Committee who visited the city on Thursday.
A BJP delegation led by its State president G. Kishan Reddy too called on the panel members requesting that the Government order a resurvey of the losses incurred and ensure payment of input subsidy to the affected families.
Meanwhile, TDP leader Y. Ramakrishnudu demanded, in a release that the government take steps to recover the “corruption money” that changed hands in the award of irrigation projects during the tenure of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for completion of the pending projects.
