A herd of elephants from the forests along the Karnataka border have been creating panic in Baireddipalle mandal since two days. The forest officials said that the herd was a new batch and was not connected to the 41-member herd now on prowl in Kuppam and Gudupalle mandals.

The herd moving in the fields at Kadathatla, Vengamvariplle created panic among the farmers when a dozen elephants barged into a hut on the fields at Kadathatla village on Friday night. The inmates escaped from the herd and climbed a tree nearby. Women ran helter-skelter and hid themselves in the fields.
