The Osmania University students JAC leaders said they would form booth protection committees, each with ten members, to prevent malpractices if any, resorted to by the Congress candidates in all 12 Assembly constituencies where in by-elections were being held.
Addressing a joint press conference here on Thursday, the JAC leader Rajaram Yadav said a number of OU students would stay put in the town till the polling was over to ensure victory to the T-JAC backed BJP nominee Yendala Lakshminarayana. He said Congress High Command Sonia Gandhi will herself realise the need of delivery of the Telangana State only when the PCC president D. Srinivas and the former Minister Shabbir Ali were defeated. Another leader V.V. Charan said the Congress leaders were hand in glove with the Andhra leaders to defeat the Telanganism in the elections.
He said if the Congress leaders were committed to Telangana they should withdraw nominations and prevail upon their leader on the separate Telangana.
Sardar Singh said people were not being convinced with the Congress slogan of that “Ichhedi Congress Techhedi Congress” (It is only the Congress which will give and bring Telangana). However, they were of the opinion that it was Congress which was sinking the Telangana issue, he added. Dharmender demanded the government to reply why it did not reopen Telangana University when all other varsities began in June itself. Nevertheless, the varsity students were reaching the town to actively participate in the campaign in favour of the JAC candidate, he said. The Research Scholars Association president Sankar advised the MLC and TDP nominee Arkala Narsa Reddy to withdraw from the fray in support of Mr. Lakshminarayana.
