TIRUPATI: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) has taken up a massive disinfection programme on Thursday to keep the premises sterilized, organically.
Dumping the chemical method, the hospital has embraced a natural disinfection system in vogue in Australia. ‘CitroShield’, the product manufactured in Australia by GDM Technologies and imported in India by Mobadilla India, came in the form of a donation of Rs.1 lakh to SVIMS.
Explaining the merits of the natural disinfection system, Nagaraja Naidu, manager of the importing company, said that the bitter orange extract (bioflavonoid complex) would kill bacteria, virus and fungus.
He gave a demonstration on using the product in the fogging machine for uniform application.
SVIMS Director B. Vengamma gave the go-ahead to apply the product in all the wards, intensive care units, operation theatres and offices, saying that the hospital adhered to the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.
The shield coat was applied in the cardiology, MICU and RICU units on Thursday.
