Opposition parties on Monday slammed the government for allowing steep hike in power charges while making it clear that the agitations would continue till the withdrawal of the upward revision. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders began relay hunger strike at 7 Road junction while Telugu Desam and Left parties jointly organised agitation at Day and Night junction.

Bharatiya janata Party-State Executive Committee member Pudi Tirupati Rao, BJP Srikakulam District President Kotagiri Narayna Rao and others alleged that the government had no proper vision on electricity and that is why people were put to hardship with heavy bills and prolonged power cuts.

They demanded that the AP government should adopt policies of Gujarat where solar energy was given much importance to meet the growing electricity demand. Mr.Tirupati Rao criticised that Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government had completely ignored the importance of renewable energy sources.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam-Srikakulam Parliamentary wing incharge Kinjarapu Rammohan charged that the government had completely ignored the power sector and non appointment of a Minister for the important portfolio was any indication for the poor state of affairs.

He said that both industry and agriculture sectors were in deep crisis with the huge gap between demand and supply of power.

“We will continue the agitation till the government agreed to rollback the power charges in the State. State-wide bandh on April 9th will be an eye-opener for the Kirankumar Reddy’s government. We request people to participate in the bandh to express their anger over steep revision of charges.” He added.

Left Party leaders Bhaviri Krishnamurthy, Panchadi Paparao, Chapara Sundarlal and others raised slogans against the government in the hunger strike.

They said that the people were ready to teach a lesson to the Congress government in the ensuing elections for adopting wrong policies in the State.
