Secretary of Srikakulam district unit of Organisation for Protection of Democratic Rights (OPDR) D. Anjaneya Murthy died at Palasa on Thursday. He was ailing for some time after undergoing a cardiac surgery.

General secretary of State unit of OPDR C. Bhaskara Rao while condoling the death of Murthy said that with his death OPDR had lost a sincere and committed leader. Murthy was secretary of Srikakulam unit for 20 years and worked against State’s repression and for the right of people and women, he said. Murthy was jailed for lending support to the Srikakulam armed struggle during 1968-72 and was jailed. After the two cases filed against him were squashed, he resumed his job as a lecturer in the Government College, Palasa, and took up the rights’ movement. Murthy was 72 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
