TD likely to support independent
ONGOLE : Amidst much fanfare, District Congress Committee president G.V. Seshu filed his nomination papers as Congress candidate for the State Legislative Council from Local Body Authorities Constituency where the party enjoys comfortable majority.
The TDP is likely to content itself to support an independent candidate, Pallepu Raghavulu, who belongs to Vaddera caste and banking on the support of backward classes. The Congress had won 52 out of total 56 ZPTCs and nearly two-thirds of MPTC posts besides it bagged Ongole, Chirala and Markapur municipalities and so it exudes confidence to win the MLC seat. Mr Seshu, who belongs to Scheduled Castes, was earlier elected to Assembly from Santanuthalapadu constituency and was minister for a short while.
Mr Seshu went in a huge procession from the District Congress office to Prakasam bhavan accompanied by MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, MLAs Balineni Sreenivasa Reddy, Pothula Rama Rao and Dara Sambaiah, District Cooperative Central Bank chairman Sankara Reddy and Ongole municipal chairman Bapatla Hunumantha Rao and filed his nomination.
The procession caused traffic jam on the road leading to Prakasam bhavan and Joint Collector Siddhartha Jain, who is the returning officer, could not reach his office in time.
