The construction of the second floor atop Krishna District Sports Authority Hall at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium will commence on June 2 at an estimated cost of Rs. 35 lakh, according to District Sports Development Officer P. Ramakrishna here on Friday.
The hall, once completed, will be useful to house the visiting athletes arriving to take part in the various competitions. “We will have three rooms to accommodate around 100 athletes and the construction will be completed by September,” he added.
Mr. Ramakrishna said that Vijayawada was fast growing as a busy sporting venue and a hall to provide accommodation to players was a necessity. “For the sake of maintenance, we will also be giving the hall for meetings and social functions, especially by schools and colleges, at a nominal user charge. The revenue will be used for the upkeep of the building,” he pointed out. Mr. Ramakrishna said that the hall will also be useful for staging indoor games like carrom, chess and table tennis. The associations can conduct their district and State tournaments at the hall in a convenient way.
