NIZAMABAD: Olympic Run organised under the aegis of the District Olympic Association (DOA) here on Satuday morning evoked a good response with over 2,500 students, sportsmen, women, athletes and police personnel taking part in it.
Deputy IG of Police K. Rajaratnam Naidu flagged off the run at Rajarajendra Chowrasta and sprinted for half-a-kilometer holding the Olympic torch.
Mayor D. Sanjay received the torch at the District Sports Authority Stadium where the run concluded. DOA president M. Rajender Reddy and secretary B. Baga Reddy participated in the run all through its route.
The run passed through Pedda Bazar, Bodhan Road, Nehru Park, Station Road before ending at DSA Grounds. Students from all major high schools in the town, wearing skating shoes, actively participated.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Rajender Reddy said the modern Olympic Games brought the entire world on one board, promoted international peace, tranquility and forged friendship among the comity of nations. He donated cash rewards to a couple of students who gave correct replies to questions on Olympic Games.

While the Collector M. Purushottam Reddy and local MLA K. Venkat Reddy lit the ceremonial torch, Municipal Chairperson P. Venkatanarayana Goud and Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar flagged off the run.
The run that started at the Nagarjuna Government College reached the District Sports Authority’s Indoor stadium after covering Ramagari, Clock tower, DEO office and Prakasham bazar in the town.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector asked parents to encourage their wards in games and sports. The president and vice-president of the Olympic Association K. Jaipal Reddy and A. Ramanarasimha Reddy and other dignitaries took part in the programme.
A donor, Yedulla Sridhar Reddy, sponsored fruits, eggs, biscuits and milk for the participants.
Adilabad Staff Reporter adds: A large number of sportspersons and students participated in the Olympic run organised in connection with the Olympic Day to be celebrated on June 23. The run was flagged off by ADCCB chairman M. Damodar Reddy at Ambedkar chowk. The run culminated into a public meeting at Indira Priyadarshini Stadium where Adilabad Olympic Association general secretary R. Narayan Reddy and vice-president B. Goverdhan Reddy spoke.
