The ‘Rachabandas' at Singeetham in Nizam Sagar mandal and Nasrullahabad in Beerkur mandal were marred with Telangana protagonists preventing officials from conducting them and police resorting to lathicharge on the agitators resulting in injuries to some persons, on Thursday.
At Singeetham the sloganeering students prevented the MLA Hanmanth Shindey (TDP) and officials from coming on to the dais and demanded the resignation of Mr. Shindey. The police dispersed them to a distance by caning them. The irate youth cut off tree branches and put them across roads.
The ‘Rachabanda' was delayed by an hour following the disturbances. Similar was the situation in Nasrullahbad where the slogan shouting residents demanded the visiting officials to quit the village. When an angry youth rushed to the venue and plucked the mike the police was compelled to use lathis.
Meanwhile in two other villages, Bommandevpally and Nemli, in the same mandal the ‘Rachabanda' drew a damp squib as absolutely there were no takers. Officials returned without conducting the ‘Rachabanda' at Gannaram, Indalwai and Koratpalli in Dichpalli mandal as the villagers did not turn up the venue.
At Onnajipet in Sirikonda mandal the villagers detained the panchayat sarpanch expressing their discontent over his participation in the ‘Rachabanda'. The police arrested the CPI (ML)-New Democracy activists who detained the sarpanch.
