The City Police Commissioner asked people to ensure peaceful celebration of the New Year.

In a statement issued in the city on Wednesday, he wished the denizens a happy year ahead and added that the latter must desist from any activity that could effect law and order situation.

He said the city police will extend their full cooperation for peaceful celebration of the occasion but any attempt to flout rules would be dealt firmly. He said eve-teasing and trouble-mongering in the name of New Year eve celebrations would not be tolerated and asked liquor shop owners to strictly follow the prescribed time limit for keeping their outlets open on the night of December 31.
