    VIJAYAWADA: In the continuing drive against child labour, officials of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) and the teams of voluntary organisations raided Sri Chaitanya college at Jayaprakash nagar in the city and freed nine child labourers on Friday. A case was booked against the college management.

    Raids were conducted on wine shops, restaurants and industries at different places and altogether 20 child labours were rescued from the clutches of employers.

    A rally was taken out from the Forum for Child Rights office to Gandhinagar in which NCLP officials and those of NGOs participated. NCLP project director K. Shivasankar and other officials addressed the participants in the rally. He stressed the need for public cooperation in the fight against the social evil of child labour.

    Three children were rescued from three wine shops. In the raids conducted on a footwear factory at Nidamanur on the outskirts, three more children were freed from labour.

    Mr. Shivasankar said five teams were conducting raids on places where children were being employed to do small jobs.
