After the first phase of panchayat elections that passed off peacefully in Tenali, it is now the turn of Guntur division to go for polling on July 27 for 261 sarpanch posts and 2,343 posts of ward members.
The total numbers of sarpanch and ward member posts for which elections were notified are 307 and 3,306. Forty four sarpanches and 952 ward members were elected unanimously.
The villages going to polls in the second phase are spread in six Assembly constituencies (Mangalagiri, Pedakurapadu, Ponnur, Prathipadu, Sattenapalli and Thadikonda).
The Panchayat Raj, Police and other departments are already geared up for the elections and so are the political parties whose campaigning ended 48 hours in advance on Thursday.
The task of the Police Department is cut out to prevent any untoward incident in 35 hypersensitive and 37 sensitive villages.
Proceedings at 57 polling stations will be monitored through webcasting
