Taking a serious note of the alleged overloading of sand at the sand reach at Mogallapalli in Charla mandal, the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam, Project Officer G. Veerapandian has directed the officials concerned to impose penalty on the errant members of the executive committee of the sand reach.

Mr. Veerapandian took a decision to this effect at a meeting held at the Sub-Collector’s office in Bhadrachalam on Sunday. He inquired about the allegations of overloading of sand to an extent of over 1000 cubic meters worth about Rs. 28 lakh at the sand reach in Mogallapalli. He verified the records pertaining to loading of sand including the ‘trip sheets’ during the meeting. Some of the members told the Project Officer that the errant contractors resorted to overloading of sand by employing “pressure tactics.” Mr. Veerapandian noted that the entire record maintenance system was standardised to detect irregularities if any in the transactions of the sand reaches to uphold transparency and accountability.

Emphasis has been laid on empowering the tribal societies to enable them tread the path of financial self-reliance and promote the development of their gram panchayats in tune with the provisions of the Panchayat Extension in Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act.
