‘Criminal action against those trying to suppress facts’
TTD officials too participate in the review meeting
TIRUPATI: Chief Commissioner of Right to Information Act C.D. Arha has directed the officials of Chittoor and Nellore districts to upload all the relevant information on the action taken by them on the website by the 20th of this month.
Accompanied by RTI commissioners Sudhakar Rao, Ambati Subba Rao and R. Dileep Reddy, he conducted a review meeting on the implementation of RTI Act in Chittoor and Nellore districts and also the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management here on Tuesday.
He discussed the implementation of 4-1(B) and 5 (1 & 2) Acts and insisted that the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the information officers be prominently displayed at the respective offices without fail.
TTD Executive Officer K.V. Ramanachary explained that of the 197 applications received, action had been taken on all but four.
Similarly, officials from the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati explained that 24 of the 28 queries received in 2007 had been disposed of and action taken on 34 of the 55 received in 2008.
When an official questioned whether or not to provide plan copies to the denizens, Mr. Arha noted that they were very much public documents and hence could be provided.
“If you do not possess the information, direct the applicant to the concerned seat, but do not drag on and cause inconvenience,” he added.
When an official of the Panchayat Raj claimed that all the 65 applications received had been disposed of, Mr. Arha turned impatient and cut him short, stating that his records showed that 16 were pending. He warned that criminal action would be initiated against those trying to brush facts under the carpet.
