All eyes on Virender Sehwag and Ashwin to provide the magic touch

Vizagites are looking forward to another one-day international to be played at the modern ACA-VDCA stadium, PM Palem in city outskirts on December 2.

With the West Indies amassing a huge total in the first innings of the third and final Test in Mumbai and the match ending in an exciting draw, the final day having all the ingredients of a one-day match, increased the interest in the one-day series after cricket fans considered the West Indies team as a pushover for the Indians when the Caribbeans started the tour.

Cricket lovers will feel the absence of regular captain M.S. Dhoni, who sent the entire stadium into a frenzy with his blitz krieg against Pakistan in the first match at this venue, Little Master Sachin Tendulkar and the exciting batsman Yuvraj Singh but they expect Virender Sehwag, who will lead the team, to be in his natural punishing mood to satisfy their urge for an exciting batting performance. Then there is the new spin sensation R. Ashwin to be watched and also the inform Pragnan Ojha.

Locals are sure that India would continue its winning streak at the new stadium. It has won against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia. India defeated West Indies in the only match the latter played in the city, on November 7, 1994. Incidentally, the West Indies team of that tour was much stronger than the present team, and was led by one of the pace bowling greats Courtney Walsh.

Security beefed up

The teams will arrive here on Wednesday from Cuttack. The City Police has planned an elaborate security for the teams and at the stadium. All steps are being taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic before and after the match on the National Highway and all the roads from the city leading to the stadium.

The District Administration, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, VUDA, and several Government departments are helping the Andhra Cricket Association in conducting the match.
