No intention to hold political meetings and give speeches: Jagan
Asks people not to participate in his tour at the cost of their work
HYDERABAD: Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has said that his ongoing ‘Odarpu Yatra' was solely aimed at consoling the families of those who ended their lives after the death of his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
It had no political overtones and it was not his intention to hold political meetings and give politically-loaded speeches, Mr. Jagan asserted in a one-page statement issued on Monday clarifying his stand in the wake of threats of key Telangana leaders to disrupt his tour.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah at a press conference in New Delhi counselled the Kadapa MP to keep the reaction from Warangal in mind while planning his ‘Odarpu Yatra'.
“I have told then and telling now that my tour is aimed at infusing confidence among a brother, a sister and a mother who are in sorrow like me and assure them that I am on their side. It's my duty as the son of a great leader,” Mr. Jagan said.
He had already toured West Godavari and Khammam districts with the same purpose. He advised people not to participate in his tour either to meet him or to watch him at the cost of their work. They could attend only as per their convenience and there was no pressure to participate in the tour, he clarified.
I would welcome if anybody decided to attend the tour out of respect and affection for the departed leader cutting across parties and politics, he said.
