The academic career of a girl student pursuing M.Tech in the University College of Engineering is in tatters due to harassment meted out to her, allegedly by a former ad hoc lecturer.
“I was harassed by a senior student in the name of love, but I never bothered to respond. When I entered the third semester, he managed to join as ad hoc lecturer in the university college and continued to harass me in various ways. He even managed to be deputed as invigilator for the third semester examinations for four days in a row to the hall in which I was writing the examination,” the girl student said.
The girl said though she performed well in the examinations, she got “zero” marks in all the subjects. Only after repeated requests, the authorities ordered an inquiry into the incident.
“Now, the inquiry report is not being made public. A few in positions of power are extending their support to the ad hoc lecturer, who had left the college recently for a better job. My academic future depends on my third semester marks, which I will know only after the inquiry report is made public ,” the girl told The Hindu on Tuesday.
She said, though trouble started with eve-teasing, it had taken several twists and turns in the last few months, and internal bickering in the university came to the fore on many occasions.
A senior official, who has been following the case from the beginning but does not want to be identified, said the girl had been singled out and subjected to harassment.
