HYDERABAD: The Department of Horticulture is organising the annual nursery mela at People's Plaza, Necklace Road, from Saturday. The exhibition this year will be for five days and entry is free.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Horticulture Commissioner Anil Punetha said the exhibition-cum-sale would be an ideal stage to inculcate and spread knowledge among people about green house technology, irrigation systems and garden accessories besides bringing all the farmers to a common platform to exchange their ideas.

Last year, there was a business of about Rs.2.50 crores during the mela and this year it is expected to be around Rs.3.40 crores, he added.

Representatives of more than 100 nurseries, including those of Maharastra, Goa, Delhi, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will be taking part in the expo .
