The activity in the airport in the evenings too has picked up now
VISAKHAPATNAM: Waiting for the opening of the new big terminal under construction in the city airport, it is just a few months away for Visakhapatnam to become an international air destination and now the city of destiny is well connected to all the four major metros besides Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Besides, the temple town of Tirupati too is air connected by the Simplifly Deccan with its Bangalore flight leaving at 1.45 p.m. from here touching the city, the abode of Lord Venkateswara. Altogether six airlines companies -- Air India, Simplifly Deccan, Jetlite, Spicejet, Paramount Airways and Kingfisher -- operate 14 flights daily from the airport here. In addition to this, Crescent Air Cargo operates a Fokker F50 aircraft only for cargo four times a week to Kolkata from Visakhapatnam.
While Hyderabad has the highest number of seven flights a day from here operated by all the six carriers, Delhi and Mumbai are connected by three flights each a day operated by Jetlite, Spicejet and Air India. Chennai and Kolkata have two flights each and Simplifly Deccan, Jetlite and Kingfisher (only to Chennai) operate on these routes.
Thanks to the introduction of more flights by Jetlite, the activity in the airport in the evenings too has picked up as now Spicejet, Jetlite and Kingfisher operate flights to Mumbai (departure 7.50 p.m.), Kolkata (5.30 p.m.) and Hyderabad (6 p.m.) respectively. Sources said that many airlines, including international operators, have plans to include Visakhapatnam in their air route as the city has lot of potential as it is expanding economically and industrially attracting more tourists and business class.
