In a novel stir, advocates cleaned roads and also the district court complex with big bamboo broomsticks on Thursday to press for setting up a Bench of the High Court, in the coastal Andhra region.

The lawyers gathered before the statue of Potti Sriramulu here and raised slogans in support of their demand and against the Union and State Governments for not conceding their demand at a time when one or more benches of high court functioned in several other States.

Leading the protest, Prakasam District Bar Association secretary S Sivramakrishna Prasad criticised Union law minister M Veerappa Moily, Chief Minister K Rosaiah and State Law Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana for their “lukewarm” response to their demand even as their relay fast entered the 37th day on Thursday. “We will continue with our protest, including boycott of courts, till our demand is achieved,” he asserted.
