HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas has dismissed as baseless the reports of his being in the race for a berth in the State Cabinet.

“I am not aspiring for a Ministerial berth. It is for the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to take a decision about my future,” he said recalling that he had quit from the State Cabinet after being appointed as the APCC president.

Mr. Srinivas was interacting with the media after paying homage to Jawaharlal Nehru on the latter’s death anniversary on Wednesday. He admitted that the party had not performed on the expected lines in some districts and the APCC had convened a meeting of the presidents and other office bearers of the district Congress committees on June 2 to review the situation and rectify lapses, if any.

This would be followed by his tours to districts in the coming days to assess the situation and take steps for strengthening the party at the grass rot level.

Replying to queries, he said due representation was given to BCs and other weaker sections in the State Cabinet.

He refused to comment about the choice of Ministers on the ground that the selection of candidates was the prerogative of the Chief Minister.
