The Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council, in association with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), organised the 603{+r}{+d}birthday celebrations of saint-composer Tallapaka Annamayya here on Tuesday.

Famous Carnatic vocalist Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana was felicitated by former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on the occasion. Music and dance recitals were organised to commemorate the famous compositions of Annamayya.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rosaiah said organising such celebrations to remember and to respect renowned personalities was part of our culture. Composing 32,000 ‘sankeertananas' (songs) on Lord Venkateswara was no mean task for the lifetime of a person, he said. He complimented TTD for holding Annamayya birthday celebrations out of Tirumala and felt such measures would further popularise his compositions.

Kalyanamastu

Chairman of Specified Authority on TTD J. Satyanarayana said marriages of about 13,000 couples would be performed as part of Kalyanamastu programmes from May 18 to 20.

Executive Officer of TTD I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, Principal Secretary of Revenue-Endowments K.V. Ramanachary, musicians Yella Venkateswara Rao, Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, Malladi Suribabu and others participated. Children from Annamacharya Bhavana Vahini rendered several Annamayya compositions.
