GUNTUR: The National Portal of India has instituted first ever Web Ratna Awards to give recognition to exemplary e-governance initiatives in India. Nominations have been invited for The Web Ratna Awards under six different categories.

In a release here on Thursday the portal announced that the last date for nomination for the Web Ratna Awards for 2009 was July 31. The categories of Awards were: 1. Citizen Centric Service; 2. Public Participation Initiative; 3. Outstanding Web Content; 4. Innovative Use of Technology; 5. Comprehensive Web Presence - Ministry; 6. Comprehensive Web Presence - State.

A grievance forum portal ( www.pgportal.gov.in) had also been set up by the Government of India where citizens could report problems with government officials or departments, including railways, postal system, roads, schools, hospitals, and banks. Users could track the status of their reports on the Website, as well as find more information about the redress-of-grievances process, it said.

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG) had been trying to bring excellence in public service delivery and to redress grievances of citizens in a meaningful manner by effectively coordinating with different Ministries and Departments of the Government and trying to eliminate the causes of grievances, the release added.
