KAKINADA: The State Government has accorded sanction for construction of two major bridges one across Gouthami river near Saladivaripalem and the other at Vodalarevu across Panchanadi. While the Saladivaripalem bridge costing Rs. 4.7 crores would be taken up under Rajivpalle Baata programme funds, the Vodalarevu bridge costing Rs. 1 crore would be constructed with the participation of ONGC.
D. Dastagiri, Superintending Engineer of Panchayat Raj Kakinada circle comprising Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts, told The Hindu here on Friday that tenders were being finalised for both the bridges and execution would commence shortly. Of the total cost of Rs. 1 crore of Vodalarevu bridge, he said, the ONGC had agreed to contribute Rs. 40 lakhs. Another footbridge costing Rs.22 lakhs would be coming up across Yelcheru in Atreyapuram mandal, he said.
Under the Rural Integrated Development Fund scheme, Dastagiri said that NABARD had sanctioned 64 works costing Rs. 49 crores in East Godavari district and 33 works costing Rs. 28 crores in Visakhapatnam district.
They include Rs. 69.25-lakh bridge across Yeleru at Chadalada and Rs. 1.48-crore bridge across a drain at Gokinada near Pithapuram in East Godavari district and Rs. 1.74-crore bridge across river Sarada at Veduruparti and another bridge on the same river at a cost of Rs. 1.73-crore at Gantalavaripalem in Visakhapatnam district.
Under the Prime Minister's Grameena Sadak Yojana scheme (PMGSY) fifth phase, he said, 32 works at a cost of Rs. 22.1 crores were taken up in East Godavari district and 18 works costing Rs. 21 crores were taken up in Visakhapatnam district.
