Patients, particularly infants, suffer the most with power-cut at hospitals

People in Prakasam district had no respite from power problem as striking electricity employees enforced a 12-hour power shutdown for the third day in a row on Tuesday in protest against the Centre's decision to divide the State.

Financial services had been crippled since October 3 Cabinet decision with the striking RTC, Municipal and State government employees forcing closure of banks, insurance firms, post offices, BSNL offices and other Central government offices. Most of the ATMs remained closed while those in operation ran out of cash quickly. Other ATMS were not functioning as power back-up got discharged.

Patients, particularly infants, suffered the most with power-cut at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences and other hospitals. Patients and their attendants moved to the verandah to get some relief, while some used battery-operated fans. Mothers of infants used newspapers and books as fans to protect their dear ones who sweated all through the day.

With no power supply and online connectivity, all the E-Seva centres were closed down after power consumers here staged a noisy protest in front of an E-seva centre on the Kurnool road here insisting that they should not be penalised for late payment.

People living on the Tangilakasim street near the B.V.S.Theatre had a heated argument with the Tap Inspector concerned over non-supply of drinking water, which was disrupted in the wake of the power shutdown. Those living in apartments were the worst hit as lifts did not work while storage in overhead water tanks got exhausted quickly.

Meanwhile, Balakrishna Fans Association members led by its District Secretary A.V.Rama Rao joined the TDP activists in observing a relay fast in support of the indefinite strike by party president N.Chandrababu Naidu. Hunger strike was organised in all the mandal headquarters by TDP workers.
