650 students from NIFT’s 13 centres across the country to take part
Twenty-six events will be spread over four days
Hyderabad hosting event for 2nd straight year
HYDERABAD: ‘Converge 2009’, the four-day inter-centre event by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, will begin here on December 17.
Being conducted for the second consecutive year in Hyderabad, the event will have about 650 students from NIFT’s 13 centres across the country participating in various competitions and events.
“Twenty-six events will be spread over four days, of which 14 are sports events. We have also taken BHEL grounds for this purpose. Cultural programmes will be conducted every evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The special events include Mr and Ms. Converge and guest performance by the rock band ‘Eclipse’,” K. S. Pratap Kumar, NIFT Director informed at a media conference on Wednesday. Two DJ Nights, one by Disc Jockey Joshua Hamilton and the other by NIFT-Hyderabad students respectively on December 18 and 20 too will enthral the audience. Competitive events will cover sports, cultural events, literary and dramatics and environmental and social service activities.
Classical, folk and western dance performances and singing concerts will brighten the cultural evenings.
In a separate announcement, the Director also informed about the admission process for the academic year 2010, currently on for the 15 centres, which include those to be shortly inaugurated at Bhubaneswar in Orissa and Mohali in Punjab. The courses on offer include four-year Bachelors Programmes in Design, and Fashion Technology and two-year Masters Programmes in Design, Fashion Management and Fashion Technology.
Prospectus can be obtained by hand from NIFT centres or selected branches of Axis Bank by paying Rs. 250. Alternatively, they can be got by post on payment of Rs. 350 by way of demand draft from any of the NIFT locations in favour of NIFT, payable in New Delhi. For the list of selected Axis Bank branches, one should visit NIFT website www.nift.ac.in. Applications can also be filed online.
The forms will be available till January 5, and the last date for submission is January 9.
Written entrance exam will be conducted on February 21.
