VIZIANAGARAM: In yet another incident of child-lifting, a new-born male was stolen from the Government Hospital for Women and Children (Gosha Hospital) here on Saturday evening.

A woman aged 40, entered the ward and later ran away with the child at about 8.30 p.m. The child was delivered by Dumini Jayalakshmi of Jonnavalasa village near here on May 13 – two days after her admission. She was asked to stay for a few days for post-delivery care. Her grandmother, Narayanamma took the infant outside the ward for getting some relief from scorching heat. Meanwhile, the child-lifter asked her to get a water packet from nearby kiosk and took the child on her lap promising to take care of him till her return.

When she returned, she was shocked to see both of them were missing. Hospital Superintendent Ravi Chandra immediately informed the police on knowing about the incident. DSP Mary Prashanti, CI Raghuvir Vishnu and others are investigating.
