A three-day-old baby boy, who was kidnapped from the maternity ward of King George Hospital here around 1 p.m. on Friday, was traced near Vempada in Kothavalasa mandal and two women who allegedly took him away from the hospital were apprehended.

K. Sirisha of Jaggudoravalasa was admitted to the hospital on December 11 and gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday.

The two women, Jyothi and Lakshmi, who were moving around in the wards since the last four days posing themselves as hospital staff, might have hatched the plan to kidnap the baby boy. At 12.30 p.m. on Friday, a woman came to Sirisha’s mother and suggested taking the baby boy to the paediatric ward for checking its health.

At the paediatric ward, she made Sirisha’s mother to hand over the baby to another woman and took her inside the ward while the other woman vanished with the baby.

Sirisha’s parents and others searched for the baby boy in and around the hospital and later lodged a complaint with the police.

The woman, who took the baby to the paediatric ward, was apprehended first and through her the other woman and the baby were traced, Inspector of One Town Police Station Mohammed Illiyas said.

The baby boy is being brought to her mother.

KGH witnessed kidnapping of children in the past, one last year and another two years ago, from its paediatrics ward, while another incident was reported from the Government Victoria Hospital for Women and Children (Ghosha Hospital) two years ago and the kidnappers were caught.
