New V-C assumes office

GUNTUR: Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University Yakasiri Raja Haragopala Reddy assumed office at half-past noon on Saturday amid fanfare and a festive atmosphere prevailed on the campus.

Two past Vice-Chancellors L. Venugopala Reddy and V. Balamohandas were also present on the occasion along with a large gathering of teaching, non-teaching and student community representatives greeting him with bouquets and garlands.

A traditional welcome was accorded to the new vice-chancellor with `Sonnai Melam’ from the University entrance gate on the Natinoal Highway No.5.

He paid floral tributes at the University emblem, garlanded the statues of B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi before arriving the administrative building accompanied by students holding afloat flags containing colours from national flag. Bursting of crackers and distribution of sweets marked the assuming office on the campus.

While Mr. Venugopala Reddy and University Registrar K. Viyyanna Rao were on the side of Mr. Haragopala Reddy when he signed on the dotted line, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas joined them a little later. The University Executive Committee members one by one greeted the new Vice-Chancellor.

Promising to provide good facilities for the student community, he thanked the Andhra Pradesh Council for Higher Education Chairman K.C. Reddy and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for giving him the opportunity.
